Myanmar Delegation Led by the Commissioner H.E Mr. Nay Win attended the 8th Session of UNCAC Implementation Review Group Meeting

A Myanmar delegation, led by H.E. Mr. Nay Win, attended the 8th Session of the UNCAC Implementation Review Group Meeting held from June 18th to June 23rd, 2023, at the Meeting Hall of the Vienna Convention Centre in Vienna, Austria. In addition to H.E. Mr. Nay Win, Deputy Director for the Anti-Corruption Commission Mr. Than Zaw Win, Chief of Police Mr. Kyaw Win Thein, and Deputy Director for the Union Attorney General Mr. Nyunt Lwin also attended the session.
Alongside the Myanmar delegation, Second Secretary Mrs. Phwe Mon Kyaw and Third Secretary Mrs. Su Wai Pho Kyar from the Permanent Mission of Myanmar in Vienna were also in attendance. In the meeting, a total of 129 representatives from state parties, including Myanmar, civil society organizations, non-government organizations, representatives from the media, and private sectors, were present, totaling 481 attendees.
During the session, discussions were held on the recommendations for the First Cycle, the implementation status, ongoing processes, and the way forward. The meeting emphasized the importance of fully implementing the assessments and recommendations from the First Cycle in a timely manner. It was also emphasized that State Parties should request technical assistance to support their implementation efforts. The experiences regarding the implementation of Chapter II and V of UNCAC were also discussed.
Myanmar has successfully implemented the First Cycle, and based on the best practices and lessons learned, Myanmar aims to successfully implement the Second Cycle. To achieve this, cooperation with the respective ministries and organizations is essential. Capacity building and the development of a tentative plan are also needed.
