H.E. Dr. Htay Aung, Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission, conducted anti-corruption prevention and awareness raising (Mandalay Region)

While carrying on anti-corruption activities, the Anti-corruption commission takes priority on prevention and awareness raising rather than investigation, in accordance with the saying "Prevention is better than Cure’’. So, the Anti-Corruption Commission is constantly working on prevention activities.
H.E. Dr. Htay Aung, Chairman went to the Civil Service Academy (Upper Myanmar) on 17th March 2023 at 08:00 A.M and lectured the subject "Anti-corruption and the role of civil servants" to Management Course for Executive Level Officials (No. 12) and Management Course for Senior Level Officials (No. 13). As the trainees are civil servants, they are crucial to ensure good governance and clean government and to run the government mechanism actively and continuously. As a good civil servant can create a good nation, Chairman argued, every civil servant needs to adhere to the law, rules, and ethics.
In the afternoon, H.E. Dr. Htay Aung, Chairman met with the Chief Minister of the Mandalay Region Government in Mandalay Township. After that, H.E. Dr. Htay Aung, Chairman together with Mandalay Region Prime Minister attended the "Aware- ness raising Ceremony on Prevention of Corruption for the Private Sector" and discussed on the topic "Corruption Prevention in the Private Sector".
The Chief Minister for the Mandalay Regional Government addressed in his opening remark that, “According to the instructions of the State Administration Council and the cooperation of the Commission, Corruption Prevention Unit of the Mandalay Regional Government has been formed with 19 members and carrying out its duties and functions. And the 31 internal CPUs have been formed in the departments that are directly connected to the public. To be Good Governance and Clean Government which is free from corruption, governmental departments, private sectors, and the public should be more cooperative”.
And then, the Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission, expressed that “the Commission is doing anti-corruption activities in accordance with the Anti-Corruption Strategy, Corruption Prevention Units (CPUs) have been formed in the 38 Union Ministries, Union Level Institutions and 14 State and Regional Governments so as to enhance the integrity in the Public Sector and to build a foundation for the anti-corruption until February 2023. The main sector for the development of the Nation is the economic sector and it will be delayed due to corruption. Corruption can ruin the economic system of the country. Nevertheless, the Commission alone can’t accomplish the aim to be a corrupt-free economic sector and all the stakeholders should involve in it. He is thankful to Mandalay Region Chamber of Commerce & Industry(MRCCI) for its cooperation in this meeting. The emergence of a fully accountable business sector will induce more international investment. In 2018, the Commission issued a joint statement with the Mandalay Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry on anti-corruption cooperation in order to create a good business environment that adheres to ethics. In the announcement, we agreed to fight the various forms of corruption occurring in the business sector by having transparency, accountability, dignity, bravery, and fairness.
The commission issued the announcement 14/2018 on "The basic principles for setting strong business ethics and appropriate controlling methods for private organizations to prevent corruption.
" It was discussed that the points in the announce-ment should be paid special attention to the prevention of corruption in the business sector. Then, the participants asked what they wanted to know, and the chairman of the commission replied to them friendly and frankly. The Chief Minister of the Mandalay Region Government, Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission and Ministers of the Mandalay Region Government, members from Regional Corruption Prevention Units, representatives from the Mandalay Region Chamber of Commerce & Industry(MRCCI), Industrialists, and Special invitees have attended the ceremony.
