The Anti-Corruption Commission and Central Body on Anti-Money Laundering held a workshop on understanding the risk of money laundering at 9:30 am at the Assembly Hall, the Chairman, Secretary, Commissioners, Directors General, Deputy Directors General and staffs from the ACC Office attended.
At the event, the chairman of the commission gave an opening speech focusing on the relationship between money laundering and corruption, which was the topic of today’s workshop organized for the staff working in the ACC office to increase awareness of the risks of financial loss.
The problem of money laundering is a serious issue that can lead to various crimes. With the advancement in modern technology, it has become increasingly challenging to control the root cause of these issue is self-interest, driven by the desire to launder money and conceal proceeds of corruption. Not only in the region, but also in cross-border crimes, international cooperation is being carried out on a wide scale. Since the 21st century, departments have established and enforced regulations and procedures to combat the money laundering. According to UNODC's survey, up to 50 percent of damages in the world are caused by money laundering. Money laundering is related to terrorist attacks and drug trafficking. It is a national responsibility to fight against it together, as it can cause significant losses and involve various crimes beyond large sums of money.
After that, Chief of Police Myo Thu Soe clarified about the corruption is a problem related to money laundering. Deputy Police Colonel Myint Soe discussed about the anti-money laundering and international agreements, transnational crimes related to money laundering while Deputy Director U Thu Rain Aung presented financial investigation and case studies; the participants asked and answered question and the ceremony way closed.
