THE Anti-Corruption Commission inspected the complaints against Mon State's former chief minister Dr Aye Zan for asking for money from businesspeople using his authority.

        According to the inspection, he violated the existing law, rules and regulations and procedures during his office tenure and received K569 million from entrepreneurs in sand mining projects in the Thanlwin River starting in 2018. He also allowed reducing the amount of mineral tax in paying the State budget although he did not possess such authority and so it caused more than K132 million in losses to the State fund in the 2019-2020FY. He granted K20 million of COVID-19 funds to others and K65 million to other two persons and failed to repay. It caused losses to the State fund and was found that he took bribes. Therefore, he was prosecuted at the Mon State High Court under Section 55 of the Anti-Corruption Law on 27-4-2021. The court sentenced Mon State's former chief minister, Dr Aye Zan, to 21 years imprison[1]ment under Section 55 of the Anti-Corruption Law yesterday.
