The Anti-Corruption Commission and the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission jointly held an awareness raising programme on corruption prevention at the Meeting Hall of Myanmar National Human Rights Commission, Yangon.

During the event, U Hla Myint, Chairman of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission, emphasized the importance of proactive investigation and identification the risk of corruption in order to effectively implement corruption prevention measures. He mentioned the formation of the Corruption Prevention Unit (CPU) in the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission which conduct thorough monitoring and evaluations of corruption risks, and implement measures to prevent and control corruption. He highlighted the Commission's commitment to human rights promotion, education, and protection services, and stressed the need for strengthened internal supervision to prevent corruption. These measures are based on identifying areas where corruption may occur, identifying opportunities, and addressing challenges.

        Dr. Htay Aung, Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission, explained that both the Anti-Corruption Commission and the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission were established simultaneously. In 1947, a committee was formed to prevent from the stolen of public supplies, and appropriate actions were taken in accordance with the Penal Code. Subsequently, in 1948, the Corruption Prohibition Act was enacted. As the Corruption is an epidemic that can easily spread throughout society, Anti-Corruption is being recognized and Implemented as a national cause. The more corruption, the more poverty, and it is necessary for administrative institutions, individuals, and families to adhere to ethics, rules, and laws, and to work together to "Remove Corruption, Promote Prosperity." 

    And then, the officials from the Anti-Corruption Commission continued to explain the nature of corruption, the functions of CPU, the preventive measures, the development of Terms of Reference (TOR) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). They engaged in a comprehensive discussion regarding Corruption Risk Assessment.

The event was attended by the Vice Chairman and commissioners from the Nay Pyi Taw branch of the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission, as well as Commissioners, Anti-Corruption Commission and the staff from the ACC office. Moreover, the staff from the Mandalay and Pathein branch offices participated via an online platform.
