Holding an awareness-raising ceremony on corruption prevention

20-12-2022, Nay Pyi Taw

An awareness-raising on corruption prevention was held on December 20 at the City Hall of the Municipal Development Committee in  Mandalay. At this ceremony,  Chief Minister of Mandalay region, Wunna Kyaw Htin U Maung Ko, said that corruption can occur in many forms in various fields. If you commit corruption, you will be charged under the anti-corruption law. As it can damage your reputation, civil servants need to avoid committing it. Civil servants are important as a bridge in building trust between the government and the citizen. So, they need to be upright and honest in carrying out public service activities, and they must have fairness and transparency and accountability in their work.

A clean government and good governance can only be implemented and maintained by civil servants who are free from corruption. Then, Dr. Tun Tun Oo, a member of the Anti-Corruption Commission, said that corruption is broader than taking bribes. He also said that the anti-corruption law was amended for four times in order to effectively combat corruption and strengthen the legal framework. He said that the objectives of the law are being implemented as a national cause. In doing so, he said that government departments or organizations, non-governmental organizations, including the news media, and all relevant responsible persons have to participate altogether. The Chief Justice of the Region, Ministers of the Regional Government, Division-level Departments, and District (or)  chairmen from the Township Management Committee attended the event. The responsible person from the anti-corruption commission will continue to lecture the technical training on corruption prevention to the members of the corruption prevention unit(CPU), Yangon division on 21st, December.
