The Anti-Corruption Commission and the Yangon Regional government jointly organized a ceremony to educate and provide clarity on corruption prevention, along with technology training related to corruption prevention. The event took place on the morning of November 21, 2022, at a hall in Yangon. The ceremony was held with the intention of effectively implementing the "Anti-Corruption Workshop and Corruption Prevention Programme in departments under the Union Ministries/Organizations, as well as in the Region and State governments," as outlined in Process 1, Sector (6) of the strategic plan of the Anti-Corruption Commission.

        Chief Minister U Soe Thein, Yangon Regional Government, delivered an opening speech at the ceremony. He stated, "Through awareness lectures on corruption prevention, relevant individuals from government departments in the region/state will avoid engaging in corrupt activities by recognizing the associated issues, understanding the negative impact it has on the nation, comprehending the provisions outlined in the anti-corruption law, and acknowledging the corresponding criminal penalties that contribute to the criminalization of corruption."

        Next, General Nyunt Win Swe, the commander of the Yangon Region Military Command, emphasized, "Corruption is a pervasive problem that has the potential to erode the integrity of the entire administration, economy, and social fabric. It is imperative for political office holders, civil servants, military and civilian organizations, and every individual to actively participate in combating corruption."

        Anti-Corruption Commissioner U Than Thut Thein also stated, "The Anti-Corruption Commission has adopted and is implementing a strategic plan (2022-2025) through three key steps: anti-corruption awareness, prevention, and investigation. He also emphasized that the work plans of the strategic plan are being effectively implemented, and the commission considers the fight against corruption as a national duty. It takes responsibility for fostering the emergence of a clean government and a robust administrative system.

        In his speech, he stated that it is being implemented to achieve greater responsibility, accountability, and transparency, in order to protect the interests of the people, which is the purpose of the anti-corruption measures. Additionally, it is being scrutinized to ensure that state funds are not squandered and to take effective action against perpetrators of corruption, with the ultimate goal of creating a corruption-free society.

    In his conclusion, he emphasized the special need for all relevant responsible persons, including government ministries, organizations, non-governmental organizations, civil organizations, and news media, to work together towards this goal. Discussions and presentations from a legal standpoint regarding the formation of the Corruption Prevention Unit and anti-corruption awareness were conducted. The commission members and the commission office staff responded to the questions of the actively engaged participants.

        The Corruption Prevention Awareness Discussion ceremony was attended by a total of 260 individuals, including anti-corruption members, the Chief Justice of the Region, Cabinet ministers, the Attorney General, and relevant departmental officials from the Yangon Region. Technical training programs on corruption prevention will be held on the second day.
