It was attended by Colonel Naing Ye Thu from the Transnational Crime Department of the Myanmar Police, U Than Zaw Win, Deputy Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission, and Daw Wint Wint Tun, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation.
A total of 23 representatives attended from Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. Additionally, there were representatives from Norway, the Interpol organization, and the regional office of UNODC.
We aim to identify the risks of economic crime and corruption in the Fishery Sector by actively participating in regional discussions on economic crimes in the Southeast Asia Fishery Sector. These discussions will cover topics such as international fisheries laws and procedures, the risks of corruption, and conditions for fisheries security cooperation. By examining deeper into the fishing industry in the ASEAN region, including domestic and foreign fishing conditions, we can understand the various aspects involved. Southeast Asian countries have derived numerous benefits from this sector. UNODC, which is responsible for developing a strategy to reduce economic crimes and corruption, will play a crucial role in organizing and analyzing information in the Fishery Sector. Through the workshop, we anticipate gaining valuable insights that will enable us to derive greater benefits for Myanmar and the ASEAN region as a whole.
