- Tue, 8 September 2015
"U Ye Htet, Deputy Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission, attended the 2nd APEC Workshop on Developing RIA Guidelines as an Anti-Corruption Tool, held in Bangkok, Thailand, from September 8 to 9, 2015. This workshop was conducted in cooperation with the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and Thailand's Ministry of Justice.
The objectives of the workshop were to deliberate and discuss the draft guidelines on the regulatory impact assessment (RIA) of regulatory system establishment in Thailand, with the aim of enhancing the efficiency of Thailand government organizations in implementing RIA, to assist policymakers in formulating policies that promote transparency within the Thailand government, remove economic sanctions, and enhance transparency within Thailand and among Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member countries. This includes aligning with international standards, ensuring practicality and stability, and supporting ASEAN's Good Regulatory Practices (GRP) for improved transparency and to introduce a new strategy for reforming APEC's structure, which includes a broader commitment to ensuring proper business operations and supporting the development of transparent and competitive markets.
By hosting RIA workshops, APEC member countries can gain systematic and effective expertise in RIA implementation within their economic sectors. This serves as an encouragement for both APEC member and non-member countries to effectively apply RIA principles. Ultimately, these initiatives will result in better benefits from government policies and regulations, while APEC can promote openness and transparency across all economic sectors, sharing positive outcomes.
